RPS: Making Offices Sound Good

In July of this year, RPS technical director Andrew Parkin was asked to submit an article for Sitelines magazine - a periodical for the Local Authority Building Control body - on behalf of the Institute of Acoustics. The article submitted concentrates on acoustics in offices, a subject that Andrew is currently greatly involved in as chairman of a sub-committee formed by The Association of Interior Specialists. This sub-committee is to prepare an Acoustic Design Guide for Offices, which is hoped, will gain industry recognition and eventually become part of the building regulations. The sub-committee was formed after the Anglo-German Acoustics forum – which Andrew co-chaired – concluded that legislation and design guidance was particularly lacking in the office construction sector. It is hoped that a first draft of the Guide will be available mid-2009.
